The recent derailment in East Palestine, Ohio has negative implications for the industry. Berkshire Hathaway's ownership of BNSF could be an advantage as politicians and regulators pursue reforms.
Biden made a trip to Kiev (with cooperation from Russia), all to great fanfare. He adamantly refuses to visit East Palestine. The citizens of East Palestine do not receive so much as a hotel voucher, while Ukraine is showered with billions, $40 billion earlier this year, to go with the $56 billion last year and, then another $10 billion last month, $9.5 billion a few weeks ago, then $400 million two days ago.
This shows where the Empire's real priorities are. Since they are not citizens of a country that the United States wishes to punish or to woo, the flyover people are at most an annoying inconvenience.
I wonder who BNSF uses for insurance?
It’s not a matter of if but when. Derailments will happen. Someone should set a rule on exact how many of a chemical can be in a manifest. For example they could run 4 trains instead of what we just witnessed in Ohio. They could also arrange the most toxic cars to the rear where it’s less likely they will derail. They could have hot wheel detector every 10 miles.
