Culture and mores can overcome the Tragedy of the Commons. Culture and norms are the glue that hold societies together. I think that your section about the Spanish wine fountain demonstrates this well. These little, informal rules work great in small groups where people can’t hide and where people feel loyalty to the group or to an idea. Which leads me to believe that the tragedy starts where anonymity meets narcissism meets a sort of nihilism. Which then explains most of the tragic side of social media. But then, my mind wanders like an inebriated Pilgrim so this might all just be BS.
